  • Inbound unloading, put-away, replenishment and outbound staging all involve constant handling — this course covers the movement patterns behind each.
  • Learn to spot hazardous manual tasks in racking, pick faces and dock areas before they become injuries.
  • Understand why repetition and posture matter as much as the weight printed on the carton.
  • Know when to use equipment, ask for a second person, or raise the issue with your supervisor.

Common manual handling hazards for warehouse workers

  • Inbound unloading and put-away — repeated lifting from pallets onto racking at different heights.
  • Replenishment and restocking — awkward reaches into pick faces during a shift.
  • Outbound staging — moving multiple cartons quickly, often under time pressure.
  • Shared equipment — pallet jacks and hand trolleys used inconsistently across different workers.

On the floor

Put-away at the end of a long inbound

A container has been destuffed onto pallets and the last hour of the shift is put-away. The cartons are 14 kg each, the racking slots are at knee height and above shoulder height, and the team lead wants the dock clear before the next truck. Two workers start double-stacking cartons to save trips.

Takeaway: The weight didn't change; the risk did. Fatigue, awkward heights and time pressure turn a routine lift into a hazardous manual task. The course's Recognising Risk module teaches you to spot exactly this and to use a step platform or split the load instead of doubling it.

Site inductions usually cover site-specific rules and hazards. This course is a general manual handling refresher you can complete any time, in addition to whatever your site already requires.

No. This covers manual handling awareness only — it doesn't cover machinery licences such as forklift operation.

About an hour: eight short modules of five to eight minutes each, then a free 20-question assessment. It's self-paced, so you can do a module on a break and come back later.

Yes, as non-accredited manual handling awareness training. If you buy the optional $39 Certificate of Completion it comes with a unique ID an employer can verify on this site. It is not a nationally recognised qualification, so describe it accurately.

No. It is non-accredited general awareness training. Warehouse Handling Academy is not a Registered Training Organisation and this course is not HLTWHS005 or any other unit of competency.

This is non-accredited general awareness training and does not issue a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment. Always confirm your employer's specific training requirements.
